COVID numbers remain low in Alberta on Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

Starting on the week of Monday, March 21, COVID-19 data, including cases and outbreaks, will only be reported by AHS once per week on Wednesdays.

Province to limit reporting of COVID numbers, wind down RAPID testing program

502 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 534,295. Of those, 6,583 cases are active while 523,679 people have recovered.

With 2,925 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 17.2 per cent.

In the South Zone, 41 people tested positive with 16 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the South Zone went down by four but increased by two in the city.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID including two in the North Zone and one each in the Central and Edmonton Zones. To date, 4,023 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 966 patients are currently hospitalized including 62 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of one for hospitalizations but an increase of five for ICU compared to our most recent report on Thursday.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 215,007 cases, 2,389 active
    • 309 in hospital, 20 in ICU
    • 1,095 deaths
  • Edmonton Zone – 170,789 cases, 1,959 active
    • 319 in hospital, 26 in ICU
    • 1,574 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 59,567 cases, 696 active
    • 126 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 489 deaths (two new)
  • Central Zone – 54,071 cases, 882 active
    • 125 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 511 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 34,617 cases, 646 active
    • 87 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 354 deaths

Below is a breakdown of current cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 11,869 cases (16 new), 292 active, 88 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 4,572 cases (four new), 96 active, 12 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 3,687 cases (five new), 98 active, 28 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 3,616 cases (10 new), 97 active, 48 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 7,101 cases (10 new), 136 active, 89 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,637 cases (one new), nine active, 32 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,668 cases (three new), 46 active, 22 deaths
  • Cardston County – 2,638 cases, 43 active, 45 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,656 cases (one new), 19 active, 19 deaths
  • Cypress County – 1,168 cases, 18 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 1,176 cases (three new), 31 active, 14 deaths
  • County of Warner – 1,095 cases (one new), 17 active, eight deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 823 cases (one new), 18 active, eight deaths
