Hurricanes pick up 5-2 win against visiting Rebels Friday night

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Coming off a loss against Regina on Wednesday, the Lethbridge Hurricanes were looking to bounce back Friday night as they hosted the Red Deer Rebels.

In front of a crowd of 3,533 fans at the ENMAX Centre, the ‘Canes indeed did bounce back and picked up the 5-2 win against the Rebels.

FIRST PERIOD

The Hurricanes got things started quick with Easton Kovacs scoring at the 6:10 mark. His goal was followed by a successful shot from Chase Pauls at 8:23.

Lethbridge’s early lead went up to three at the 13:46 mark, courtesy of a goal from Logan McCutcheon.

At 15:39, Red Deer’s Kyle Masters was issued a minor penalty for holding. His teammate Hunter Mayor received a minor for high sticking at 18:45.

SECOND PERIOD

Red Deer’s Matteo Fabrizi was called for interference at 1:36. The Rebels cut Lethbridge’s lead to two thanks to a goal from Ben King at 12:29.

At 13:19, Logan Wormald was issued a minor for hooking, marking the Hurricanes’ first penalty of the game.

THIRD PERIOD

Lethbridge’s Tristan Zandee received a minor penalty for interference at the 4:39 mark. Later in the game’s final frame, Joe Arntsen was issued a minor for delay of game at 16:09.

At the 18:04 mark, Red Deer’s Jackson van de Leest received a minor for cross checking.

The last couple of minutes of the game saw three goals! Chase Pauls scored his second of the game for Lethbridge at 18:56, putting the ‘Canes up 4-1.

Red Deer received a shot of hope at 19:08, with a goal from Jayden Grubbe. Lethbridge sealed the deal, though, with Yegor Klavdiev scoring at 19:43 to secure the 5-2 win for the Hurricanes.

Up next for both teams is a rematch tomorrow night, March 19, in Red Deer.
