RED DEER, AB – The action was so intense Saturday night that overtime was not enough for the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Red Deer Rebels.

The Hurricanes defeated the Rebels 3-2 in a shootout to earn the big road win.

FIRST PERIOD

4:37 into the first, Lethbridge’s Tristan Zandee was issued a minor penalty for boarding.

The Rebels were unable to capitalize on the power play. However, at the 10:14 mark, Kalan Lind scored to put the host team up 1-0. That would be the opening frame’s only goal.

SECOND PERIOD

No goals were scored in the second, but as the period came to a close, at 19:33, Ty Nash (Lethbridge) and Christoffer Sedoff (Red Deer) each received minors for roughing.

THIRD PERIOD

1:38 into the final period of regulation, Yegor Klavdiev scored his 15th goal of the season to tie the game. 6:15 in, Jackson van de Leest received a minor for tripping.

The ‘Canes went up 2-1 at 10:09 thanks to a goal from Tyson Laventure. Laventure went on to serve a too many men on the ice penalty for Lethbridge at 15:40.

Just when Hurricanes fans thought their team would pull away with the win, Red Deer’s Arshdeep Bains scored his 34th goal of the season at 16:09.

Lethbridge couldn’t respond so the game was sent to overtime!

OVERTIME, SHOOTOUT & UP NEXT

The extra period saw no goals, so the game was decided via shootout.

22 shots were taken in the shootout, but it was Briley Wood who scored the winner. The Hurricanes left the ice with the 3-2 victory!

The ‘Canes have the next few nights off. They’re back on home ice Friday, March 25 at the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
