ELIZABETH JOHANNA HEINRICKS passed away March 22, 2022 at the Good Samaritans’ Raymond, AB.
Elizabeth was born to Paul and Lina Wenzel February 21, 1929 in Tonowo, Poland. The family immigrated to Canada in the spring of 1930 and after a long train trip across Canada arrived in Saskatchewan. They set up farming in the Luseland area during which time a sister and brother were born. Elizabeth attended a country school nearby until grade 8 and remembers growing up in the depression. The farm was a mixed farm so there was always work to do. In 1949 Elizabeth attended the Two Rivers Bible Institute from which she graduated in 1953. During the time there she met Ben Wall and on June 27, 1953 they were married. They went to Guadeloupe, French West Indies to be missionaries and stayed there until 1958. When they came back to Canada, they brought 3 sons with them. For the next one and half years they lived with Elizabeth’s’ parents until Ben health returned and they had another son. 1960 saw them move to Two Hills, Alberta so that Ben could pastor a church there and during that time another son came along. Three years later they were on the move to Nipawin Bible Institute at Nipawin, Saskatchewan where Ben taught and pastored a church 40 miles away. Elizabeth took care of five boys in a house that was heated by coal, water was pumped by hand and food was cooked on a coal stove. Over the five years the family lived there an indoor bathroom was installed, water no longer had to be pumped, and a gas furnace was installed. In 1968 there was a move to Taber, Alberta so that Ben could pastor another church. Elizabeth continued to run the house taking care of five growing boys. In 1977 Bens’ health wasn’t great and he resigned his pastorate and went into real estate in 1978. They moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, Elizabeth had a smaller group to take care of as the boys were going their separate ways.
Ben and Elizabeth traveled and enjoyed camping together. May 17, 1987 Ben had a fatal heart attack and left Elizabeth alone. Elizabeth did a trip to Germany to see family and she enjoyed visiting her sons’ families until she met Bill Heinricks and they were married July 23, 1988 and then they resided in Taber, Alberta. While in Taber Elizabeth learned to swim and she enjoyed going to the pool and swimming lengths which the doctor said contributed to her recovery from colon cancer. Bill and Elizabeth visited with family often at their home or away. July 29, 2002 Bill passed away and Elizabeth was on her own again. For the next 6 years she took care of her place in Taber and visiting family. In 2008 Elizabeth moved to Lethbridge and lived at Black Rock Terrace and stayed there until covid hit. After seeing her limitations, she was moved to Good Samaritans Society Raymond and was there until her passing.
Elizabeth is survived by Dwight (Deb) Wall, Theo (d) (Sherry) Wall, David (Elizabeth) Wall, Jim (Ina) Wall and Phil (Deb) Wall. She had 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her first husband Ben Wall, her second husband Bill Heinricks, her son Theo, her parents Paul and Lina Wenzel, her sister Rose and brother-in-law Walter Honecker, and brother Walter and sister-in-law Erica Wenzel.
A Visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2825 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, March 28, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon.
