South Zone sees six COVID deaths, 422 cases over the last week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest weekly report on COVID-19.

The numbers reported in this update reflect data from March 29 to April 4, 2022.

A total of 5,549 cases were confirmed across the province over the last week for a daily average of 792.

With 21,314 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 26%.

In the South Zone, 422 people tested positive, or approximately 60 per day, with 159 in Medicine Hat and 150 in Lethbridge.

Over the last week, 30 Albertans died from COVID with 11 in the Edmonton Zone, 10 in the Calgary Zone, six in the South Zone, two in the North Zone, and one in the Central Zone. To date, 4,104 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

For the South Zone, there were four deaths in Lethbridge and two in Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 990 patients are currently hospitalized including 44 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks increases of 26 for hospitalizations and two for ICU compared to last week’s report.

  • 1,117 deaths (10 new)
• Edmonton Zone
  • 174,626 cases
  • 355 in hospital, 24 in ICU
  • 1,598 deaths (11 new)
• North Zone
  • 60,496 cases
  • 111 in hospital, four in ICU
  • 501 deaths (two new)
• Central Zone
  • 55,510 cases
  • 146 in hospital, three in ICU
  • 521 deaths (one new)
• South Zone
  • 35,565 cases
  • 86 in hospital, two in ICU
  • 367 deaths (six new)

• Medicine Hat – 7,388 cases (159 new), 91 deaths (two new)
• Brooks – 2,649 cases (10 new), 32 deaths
• Lethbridge County – 2,738 cases (39 new), 23 deaths
• Cardston County – 2,693 cases (13 new), 47 deaths
• M.D. of Taber – 1,673 cases (four new), 19 deaths
• M.D. of Pincher Creek – 1,221 cases (14 new), 14 deaths
• Cypress County – 1,190 cases (six new), six deaths
