Hurricanes lose 5-4 in OT to Red Deer Rebels Friday night

RED DEER, AB – In front of a crowd of 3,841 in Red Deer, the home team Rebels came away with the 5-4 overtime victory against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.

FIRST PERIOD

Only two goals were scored in the opening frame, both by Red Deer.

Talon Brigley scored 6:52 seconds into the game and his teammate Kalan Lind picked up his 20^th goal of the season at the 17:41 mark.

Penalties in the period included a delay of game minor on Lethbridge’s Joe Arntsen at 1:13. Tristan Zandee of the Hurricanes was issued a minor for interfering with Red Deer’s goaltender Chase Coward at 4:21. At 16:42, Kade Noaln (Lethbridge) was given a minor for roughing.

SECOND PERIOD

The Hurricanes caught fire in the second, scoring the period’s three goals.

3:50 into the frame, Yegor Klavdiev scored his 19^th of the season. Logan Wormald scored at 10:29 to tie the game. At 17:20, Noah Chadwick gave Lethbridge the 3-2 lead with his second goal of the season.

5:52 into the second, Chase Pauls and Dallon Melin got into it and both received a major for fighting. Red Deer’s Kalan Lind was issued a minor for interference at 13:37.

THIRD PERIOD

40 seconds into the game’s final period, Jayden Grubbe scored to tie the game.

At 8:33, Logan Wormald scored his second of the game to give Lethbridge the 4-3 lead. Christoffer Sedoff tied the game with a goal at 12:04.

When the final buzzer sounded, the game was sent to overtime tied at four.

Only two penalties were issued in the third, with Lethbridge’s Kade Nolan receiving a minor for slashing at 4:08. Red Deer’s Hunter Mayo was called for charging (minor) at 6:39.

OVERTIME & UP NEXT

The overtime period did not last too long. Ben King scored his 49^th goal of the season, winning the game for the Rebels at 2:56.

The game’s three stars were Red Deer’s Ben King, Lethbridge’s Logan Wormald and Christoffer Sedoff of the Rebels.

The Hurricanes travel back home to Lethbridge for a meeting with the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday, April 9. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Rebels travel up to Edmonton to face the Oil Kings at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
