LETHBRIDGE, AB – Key officials with the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) want to meet face-to-face with members of the community.

A town hall meeting has been scheduled for later this month with both LPS Chief Shahin Mehdizadeh and Lethbridge Police Commission Chair Rob vanSpronsen.

Mehdizadeh says he wants to hear from the public, both to have them give suggestions on how to improve the service going forward and to ask questions directly.

“In order for community policing to be effective, we need to have ongoing dialogue with our citizens and a collaborative approach to identify community needs. We’re encouraging the community to come to the Town Hall and share their policing priorities and what areas they’d like to see the LPS focus on for the next four years. The feedback we receive will ultimately help guide our upcoming Business and Strategic Plan.”

The session will open with a presentation from vanSpronsen. He will give an overview of the role of the Commission and share details about its Strategic Plan.

Mehdizadeh will discuss crime trends, the challenges facing LPS, and the actions and initiatives being taken to create a safer community.

From there, there will be an open mic Q&A session and participants will be asked to complete a brief survey on their policing priorities.

There may be another opportunity for residents to provide feedback in a community phone survey in May.

The town hall meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, starting at 6:00 pm at the Galt Museum & Archives.

Hosting town hall meetings such as this is something Mehdizadeh previously talked to LNN about in our year-end interview for 2021.
