COVID hospitalizations rise to over 1,000 in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest weekly report on COVID-19.

The numbers reported in this update reflect data from April 5-11, 2022.

6,181 cases were confirmed in the province over the last week for a daily average of 883.

With 23,299 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 26.5%.

In the South Zone, there were 359 positive tests, or 51.2 per day.

That includes 132 cases in Lethbridge or 18.8 each day.

Over the last week, 37 Albertans died from COVID with 13 each in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones, five in the North Zone, four in the Central Zone, and two in the South Zone. To date, 4,141 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of South Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 1,053 patients are currently hospitalized including 48 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks increases of 63 for hospitalization and four for ICU compared to last week’s report.

  • Calgary Zone
    • 222,273 cases
    • 317 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 1,130 deaths (13 new)
  • Edmonton Zone
    • 176,759 cases
    • 391 in hospital, 31 in ICU
    • 1,611 deaths (13 new)
  • North Zone
    • 60,927 cases
    • 108 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 506 deaths (five new)
  • Central Zone
    • 56,311 cases
    • 156 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 525 deaths (four new)
  • South Zone
    • 35,924 cases
    • 81 in hospital, one in ICU
    • 369 deaths (two new)

  • Lethbridge – 12,376 cases (132 new), 97 deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 4,752 cases (29 new), 13 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 3,788 cases (34 new), 29 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 3,844 cases (69 new), 55 deaths (one new)
  • Medicine Hat – 7,511 cases (129 new), 92 deaths (one new)
  • Brooks – 2,659 cases (11 new), 32 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,764 cases (24 new), 23 deaths
  • Cardston County – 2,707 cases (14 new), 47 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,677 cases (seven new), 19 deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 1,227 cases (five new), 14 deaths
  • Cypress County – 1,212 cases (13 new), six deaths
  • County of Warner – 1,122 cases (16 new), eight deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 841 cases (four new), eight deaths
