Hurricanes lose 4-0 to Oil Kings to go down 2-0 in first-round playoff series

EDMONTON, AB – After falling in game one on Thursday, the Lethbridge Hurricanes were looking to rebound and tie up their first-round playoff series against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Unfortunately for Hurricanes fans, it was not meant to be and the Oil Kings came away with the 4-0 victory to take a 2-0 lead in their series.

FIRST PERIOD

It was a relatively tame first period, with no goals scored and no penalties called.

At the end of one, it was 0-0 between the two teams.

SECOND PERIOD

At 6:39, Carson Golder scored the game’s first goal, to put the Oil Kings up 1-0.

His teammate Kaiden Guhle was issued a minor penalty for holding at the 8:03 mark. Lethbridge, however, was unable to take advantage of the power play.

At 18:47, just as the period was coming to an end, Golder did it again, scoring his second of the game to put Edmonton up 2-0 going into the third period.

THIRD PERIOD

1:54 into the third period, Lethbridge’s Miguel Marques was issued a minor penalty for slashing. Later, at the 14:03 mark, Hurricane Justin Hall received a minor for slashing.

On the power play, Dylan Guenther scored to give Edmonton the 3-0 lead.

Lethbridge’s Alex Thacker was issued a minor penalty for roughing at 14:57, following an altercation with Edmonton’s Jalen Luypen, who was also sent to the penalty box with a minor penalty.

At 17:41, Oil King Jakub Demek was issued a minor for hooking. Seconds later, at the 17:53 mark, his teammate Kaiden Guhle scored on an empty net to give the host team the 4-0 lead, which would turn out to be the game’s final score.

UP NEXT

The two clubs get a couple of nights off, with game three of the first-round series set for Tuesday, April 26, 2022. The action shifts to the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge.

Game time on Tuesday is 7:00 p.m.
