Hurricanes down 3-0 in first-round series following 4-1 loss to Oil Kings Tuesday night

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It was a tough night for the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday.

The club is now down three games to none in their first-round WHL playoff series against the Edmonton Oil Kings, following a 4-1 loss at the ENMAX Centre.

FIRST PERIOD

Jalen Luypen put the Oil Kings on the board early, with a goal 2:21 into the game.

Lethbridge’s Kade Nolan was issued a minor penalty for tripping at 6:28.

The only other penalty issued in the first went against Edmonton’s Logan Dowhaniuk at 17:16. He received a minor for unsportsmanlike conduct.

SECOND PERIOD

1:56 into the second, the Oil Kings went up 2-0 thanks to a goal from Kaiden Guhle. At the 3:16 mark, his teammate Jakub Demek was given a minor penalty for interference.

A scuffle between Guhle and Lethbridge’s Brayden Edwards sent both players to the box, with minors for roughing at 5:11.

At the 9:26 mark, Hurricane Tyson Laventure was given a minor for tripping. On the power play, Carter Souch scored to give Edmonton the commanding 3-0 lead.

Laventure was issued another minor penalty for high sticking at the 12:26 mark. Right before the period ended, Edmonton’s Simon Kubicek received a minor for slashing at 19:02.

THIRD PERIOD

Edmonton’s Guhle received a minor for cross checking 3:02 into the game’s final frame. The Hurricanes took advantage of the power play, with Yegor Klavdiev scoring at 3:18 to cut the Oil Kings’ lead to two.

Edmonton responded minutes later, though, with Dylan Guenther scoring at the 6:13 mark to put the visiting team up 4-1.

At 7:04, Lethbridge’s Kade Nolan was issued a minor penalty for delay of game. Moments later, Edmonton’s Logan Dowhaniuk received a minor for kneeing at 10:17. Lethbridge’s Brayden Edwards was issued a minor penalty for roughing at the 14:38 mark.

Lethbridge was unable to make a comeback and fell 4-1, going down three games to none in their first-round playoff series.
