COALDALE, AB – Two local hockey players have been named to the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Central Scouting Final Rankings ahead of the 2022 NHL Draft.

The NHL Central Scouting process provides evaluation of draft-eligible players to NHL teams. Eight full-time scouts work throughout North America.

Hailing from Coaldale, Ty Young plays for the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Prince George Cougars. He placed sixth overall on the list and third among North American goaltenders. In total, 53 WHL players made the list.

Young’s teammate, goaltender Tyler Brennan of Winnipeg, was ranked number one overall and number one out of the 10 WHL netminders that made the cut.

20 of the 22 WHL teams are represented in the NHL rankings. The Swift Current Broncos have the most players on the list, with seven. The Prince George Cougars have five players on the list.

A total of 27 WHL forwards are included in the rankings, joined by 16 defenseman and 10 goaltenders.

Locally, the Lethbridge Hurricanes do not have any players on the list.

However, Lethbridge-born centreman Rylen Roersma was ranked 87th for North American skaters. Roersma skates for the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Matthew Savoie of St. Albert, Alberta was the top ranked WHL skater, placing fourth overall on the list.

The 2022 NHL Draft is scheduled for Thursday, July 7 and Friday, July 8 in Montreal, Quebec.
