LETHBRIDGE, AB – A guard from Stirling has been announced as the latest recruit to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball team.

Treydon Barton will join the Kodiaks after completing his high school career with Magrath High School.

Ryan Heggie, head coach of the Lethbridge College team, said “Trey is a throwback point guard of sorts.”

“He wants to facilitate for his teammates first and score second. He’s also not afraid of ‘the moment’ as was evident in his team’s 4A South Zone Championship win over Cardston.”

While Heggie sees great playmaking ability in Barton, he knows the six-foot guard can be a threat to score as well. The coach noted, “Trey can score the ball attacking or via the three ball.”

“Trey was well coached in high school and has that quiet leadership skill about him.”

Barton is following in his father Mason’s footsteps. The elder Barton suited up for the Kodiaks for two seasons from 1993-1995. Treydon has also attended many basketball camps coached by Ryan Heggie.

The incoming guard said, “I’m excited to continue playing at a higher level and look forward to the challenges that come with it.”

“I’m looking forward to being part of a team and continuing in a sport I love.”

Barton said he’s willing to use all of his tools to help the Kodiaks in their pursuit of a conference championship and remarked, “my job as a guard is to do whatever the team need to be successful.”

“I feel that my speed, decision making, and shooting can all help with that.”

Last season, the Kodiaks finished second in the ACAC south division. The team will tip off its 2022-2023 regular season in October.

In the classroom, Barton has enrolled in Lethbridge College’s General Arts & Science program.
