Five charged in death of Fort Macleod man

FORT MACLEOD, AB — Charges have been laid against a group of people in connection to a homicide.

Family members reported on June 20, 2021, that Lane Tailfeathers, 35, of Fort Macleod, was missing. One month later, on July 20, 2021, his remains were found in a remote area near Crowsnest Pass.

RCMP has determined that Tailfeathers’ death was the result of a homicide.

On May 13, 2022, RCMP arrested five people, and they have now been charged.

Richard Lavell, 43, and Miranda Turuk, 28, both of Fort Macleod, have been charged with second-degree murder. Their next court date is on May 18, 2022, in Fort MacLeod.

Randy Giroux, 40, of Fort Macleod, has been charged with second-degree murder. His next court date is on May 16, 2022, in Lethbridge.

Michelle Toth, 37, of Claresholm, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder and causing an indignity to a body. Her next court date is May 16, 2022, in Lethbridge.

Edward Goodrich, 51, of Granum, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder and causing an indignity to a body. His next court date is May 18, 2022, in Fort Macleod.

As these matters are now before the courts, no further information can be provided.
