COALDALE, AB – The Town of Coaldale is rejoicing after its Coaldale STRONG! Capital Campaign received another philanthropic donation.

The campaign is a fundraiser for the new multi-use recreation centre. The plan is to open the site in spring, 2024 and the goal of the campaign is to raise $2 million in community donations.

Owners of the local Home Hardware Building Centre Roelof, Fern and Mark Heinen have donated $100,000 towards the campaign.

It has been 10 years since the Heinen’s opened the local shop and to celebrate, they decided to give back to the very community that helped them reach that 10-year milestone.

In a joint statement, the family said, “as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Coaldale Home Building Centre, we would like to say thank you to the Town of Coaldale and residents in both the Town and the surrounding area of Lethbridge County for their support through these years and we look forward to many more years here.”

“As a family we have been very blessed in our varied business endeavors and we are happy to contribute to this project. Congratulations to the Town of Coaldale and much success with a new recreation centre that residents will be able to use and enjoy in the years to come.”

Once operational, the multi-use rec centre will serve as a space for sports, recreation and special events in Southern Alberta, as well as being a hub for the local community.

Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn congratulated the Heinen’s on their 10-year anniversary while thanking the family for giving back to the community.

“As part of a family business myself, I know full-well just how much hard work and dedication goes into running a successful operation, and I’m thrilled to help shine a light on the Heinen’s achievement.”

Van Rijn continued, “donations like the Heinen’s highlight the strong connection that Coaldale-based businesses have to the community, and help ensure that our new rec centre will be able to offer full programming as soon as it opens.”
