Improper fire pit use on the rise in Lethbridge
LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) is asking residents to be more careful with how they use their fire pits and to follow local burning bylaws.
Over the past few months, there has been an increase in the number of calls to the fire department regarding issues related to fire pits.
In a media release, LFES says most of these calls involved people either burning prohibited materials or using an improper or improperly-distanced fire pit.
The release states: “A majority of reports originate as an outside fire or smoke in the area with limited information and are therefore treated as emergencies. The response impacts available resources, taking crews out of service until the danger can be assessed and resolved.”
