LETHBRIDGE, AB – From Cirque du Soleil to show and shines, there are plenty of events to get out and enjoy around Lethbridge this weekend.

Starting Friday May 27, and running until Sunday, May 29, 2022, you can experience Cirque du Soleil’s OVO at the ENMAX Centre.

OVO’s story is based on a colourful day in the life of insects. The show itself features performances by clowns, jugglers, and acrobats of multiple disciplines. There are five performances taking place this weekend, including matinee and evening shows on both Saturday and Sunday. You can purchase tickets on the ENMAX Centre website.

If bugs aren’t your thing, don’t fret! There are many other events to choose from.

The Asian Heritage Festival is taking place on Saturday, May 28 at the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association. Starting at 11 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. you can experience Asian entertainment, cultural displays, games, and food. Admission to the festival is free, and if you have any questions regarding the event you can visit the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association’s website.

Another cultural celebration taking place in Lethbridge this weekend is the Stone Pipe Pow Wow. Join Lethbridge College Indigenous Services on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 to celebrate this year’s graduates and to showcase the Indigenous community with a full contest powwow.

Contestant registration is free, and the event takes place in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium at Lethbridge College. Events that will be featured during the Pow Wow include, intertribal contest singing and drumming, hand drums, golden age men’s, golden age women’s, men’s buckskin, and junior, teen and tiny tot categories. If you have questions you can contact Indigenous Services at the college at ingigenous@lethbridgecollege.ca.

If you’d prefer to attend multiple events and not change locations, drop by Theoretically Brewing on Saturday, May 28. First up is an afternoon of tunes as four Alberta bands take to the stage on Theoretically Brewings patio. Featuring, Picture Postcard, Paula Neu, and Bunny Eyes all from Lethbridge, and the headliner Summer Bruises from Calgary. In partnership with the Lethbridge Girls Rock Camp, this event is for all ages and the cover charge is pay what you can.

Later in the evening, starting around 6:00 p.m. you can enjoy the May Night Market. At the event ,you can expect to see local artisans and vendors, more live music, local food options, and a brewery community garden. The event is dog and family friendly.

Car enthusiasts, you’re in luck! On Sunday, May 29, there will be a show and shine happening at R.I. Baker Middle School in Coaldale. This year marks the 21st annual show and shine hosted by the Coaldale Custom Cruisers. Registration for anyone interested in showing off their car starts at 10:00 a.m. and costs just $10. The show begins at 12:00 p.m. and goes until 4:00 p.m. and is free to attend. Club President Gary Klassen says almost any vehicle can enter the show.

“If it’s your car and you love it, you can enter it,” Klassen said.

This year, there are over 10 trophies that can be won, and even door prizes for cars that are entered.
