COVID hospitalizations fall under 1,000 in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest weekly report on COVID-19. The numbers reported in this update reflect data from May 24-30, 2022.

During that time, 2,348 cases were confirmed in Alberta for a daily average of 335.

13,872 tests were conducted over the last week, meaning the positivity rate was 16.9%.

In the South Zone, 112 people tested positive, or 16 per day.

A total of 27 people in Lethbridge contracted COVID, or just under four each day.

Over the last week, 51 Albertans died from COVID including 21 in the Calgary Zone, 15 in the Edmonton Zone, 10 in the Central Zone, three in the North Zone, and two in the South Zone. To date, 4,558 people in the province have died with COVID-19.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of South Lethbridge and Cardston County.

Provincially, 931 patients are currently hospitalized including 29 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks decreases of 109 for hospitalizations and two for ICU compared to last week’s report.

This is the first time in approximately two months that COVID-19 hospitalization numbers in Alberta have been under 1,000.

  • Calgary Zone
    • 235,805 cases
    • 359 in hospital, 14 in ICU
    • 1,273 deaths (21 new)
  • Edmonton Zone
    • 186,794 cases
    • 315 in hospital, 14 in ICU
    • 1,744 deaths (15 new)
  • North Zone
    • 63,070 cases
    • 81 in hospital, one in ICU
    • 551 deaths (three new)
  • Central Zone
    • 59,364 cases
    • 120 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 591 deaths (10 new)
  • South Zone
    • 37,921 cases
    • 56 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 399 deaths (two new)

    • South Lethbridge – 4,117 cases (five new), 65 deaths (one new)

  • Medicine Hat – 8,021 cases (37 new), 98 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,749 cases (seven new), 33 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,861 cases (five new), 24 deaths
  • Cardston County – 2,800 cases (seven new), 49 deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,757 cases (six new), 21 deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 1,307 cases (four new), 15 deaths
  • Cypress County – 1,260 cases (four new), seven deaths
  • County of Warner – 1,190 cases (six new), nine deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 877 cases (two new), eight deaths
  • County of Newell – 692 cases (seven new), 10 deaths
