High-risk incident ends, one person taken into custody

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has taken one person into custody following what police call a ‘high-risk incident’ in Lethbridge.

Early in the afternoon on Thursday, June 2, 2022, officers were called to an apartment building near Walsh Drive and Heritage Boulevard West, where police say a man had barricaded himself in an apartment.

The LPS Tactical Team, Explosive Disposal Unit, K-9 Unit, and Victim-Witness Services team were all on the scene.

Police cordoned off an area around the apartment building and used a Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services ladder truck to reach the apartment.

Early Thursday evening, police took one man into custody in an ambulance. The LPS says this was a mental health incident, and no further details will be released.

Police would like to thank people for their patience and cooperation in staying away from the area during the incident.
