LETHBRIDGE, AB – Close to 100 people came out in support of the Trans community in Lethbridge on Sunday for this year’s Trans March.

Starting at the Galt Gardens in downtown Lethbridge, attendees made their way towards Lethbridge City Hall to hear speeches from members of the Trans community and take a group photo.

Individuals of all ages at the event dressed in pride colours, carried and wore flags, and carried signs to show their support.

Pepper Laughington spoke at the event and she says it’s important to show up and raise awareness.

“I think it’s really important to bring awareness to people,” said Laughington. “It’s important to let people know that they can change if they want to, no matter who they are or where they are or how old they are or youth or anything. And I think awareness is more important and education is more important than anything.”

Laughington recently moved to Lethbridge from Calgary, and says she was thrilled to find that Lethbridge had such a large and supportive community.

“It’s amazing. Absolutely amazing. I didn’t know what to expect,” Laughington said. “But I did know that Lethbridge had a big community, and it’s thriving quite well. And it’s interesting to see that it’s thriving in Southern Alberta, which is really, really cool. You don’t have to go to a big city to be part of a group of people.”

This is the fifth year the Trans March has been a part of Lethbridge Pride festivities. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was put on hold like many others for 2020 and 2021.
