Police charge 17-year-old following stabbing in west Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 17-year-old has been charged in connection with an assault in Lethbridge.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says on June 18, 2022, at around 1:00 a.m., an individual was observed inside of someone’s vehicle parked along the 200 block of Blackfoot Road West.

A 26-year-old man confronted the individual in the vehicle and police say he was subsequently stabbed multiple times, resulting in non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the area before officers arrived. Police later arrested a suspect and recovered the weapon used in the assault.

The 26-year-old victim was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.

A 17-year-old male, who cannot be identified due to his age, is charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, mischief, and assaulting a peace officer. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, he was released from custody with conditions and is set to be in court on June 22, 2022.

In a news release, the LPS advised residents that “it is not uncommon for car prowlers to arm themselves with weapons.”

Police say if you observe a crime in progress, please call 9-1-1 and do not attempt to intervene due to the risk of harm.
