Lethbridge Hurricanes to host Medicine Hat September 30 for home opener

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club and the Western Hockey League (WHL) have announced the team’s regular season home opener date.

The 2022 Dairy Queen Home Opener will take place Friday, September 30 at the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge. The Hurricanes will host the Medicine Hat Tigers. It will be the 10th time in the last 12 season that the Hurricanes open against their regular season against the Tigers. In the previous nine outings, Lethbridge has posted a record of 5-3-0-1 against Medicine Hat.

The September 30 matchup will be the first of 34 regular season home games for the Hurricanes and the first of four visits the Tigers will make to the ENMAX Centre during the 2022-2023 regular season.

The full home and regular season schedule will be announced at a later date.

MONDAY TRADE

In addition to announcing the date for the team’s home opener, the Hurricanes announced a trade on Monday, June 20, 2022. 2004-born forward Reid MacKay has been moved to the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for a conditional eighth-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

18-year-old MacKay was originally selected by Lethbridge in the third round, 65th overall, in the 2019 WHL Draft. He appeared in 22 games over parts of two seasons, totaling two assists and four penalty minutes. During the 2021-2022 season, the Irma, Alberta product dished out one assist in 17 games with the team, before being re-assigned to the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, where he scored one goal in 13 games.
