Coaldale’s Ty Young drafted to Vancouver Canucks

COALDALE, AB – A local hockey player is going pro.

During round five of the 2022 NHL Draft, Ty Young was selected 144th overall by the Vancouver Canucks.

The 17-year-old goalie is currently signed to the Prince George Cougars in the WHL.

In the 2021-22 season, Young appeared in 23 games, finishing with a 6-9-3 record, 3.50 goals-against-average, and a .899 save percentage.

Young, who just completed his first season in the WHL, appeared in one playoff game with the Cougars.

He also spent time with the AJHL affiliate Calgary Canucks in 2021-22, posting a 4-10-3 record, a 3.33 goals-against-average, and a .918 save percentage.

In total, 28 WHL players were picked in this week’s NHL Draft, including nine who hail from Alberta.
