Alberta ends visitor restrictions at AHS acute care sites

LETHBRIDGE, AB – More people can now visit their loved ones in acute care facilities in Alberta.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has rescinded existing visitation limits at AHS acute care, ambulatory care, urgent care, and emergency care sites.

This includes removing limits on how many designated family/support persons and visitors are permitted per patient.

Visitors should note, however, that some healthcare settings may need to impose access limits due to the vulnerability of their patients or in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak. There may also be limits on how many people can be in a certain area at one time.

Anyone planning to visit a patient is encouraged to speak with the site or the patient’s care team beforehand to see if any access limits are in effect.

“It is also important to remember that, as healthcare facilities are vulnerable environments, certain measures must remain in place for the safety of patients, staff, and all on site,” reads a media release from AHS. “Anyone entering must continue to follow precautions such as continuous masking, entry screening, physical distancing, and hand hygiene.”
