LETHBRIDGE, AB – A new player has been added to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball roster. Chinook High School stand-out Dario Gentile will suit up for the team this coming season.

Last year, he led the Chinook Coyotes to a zone championship while being named a Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League all-star. Additionally, he was a member of the 2022 Lethbridge Volleyball Club Junior Kodiaks, who won two premiers and placed top-five provincially.

Gentile has also coached with the STARS volleyball organization that helps Under-12 and Under-9 players get an introduction to the sport.

Kodiaks head coach Greg Gibos said, “His [Dario] commitment not only to himself, but to his teammates and community, separates him and will allow him to excel as a leader in our community. He’s an incredible teammate and this trait is what makes successful Kodiaks.”

He added that Gentile fulfils several needs for the team and can play multiple positions.

“He never steers away from making a dig and his intensity as a defender is what will allow him to be successful at the post-secondary level. I think this comes from a true love of the sport. He just wants to be the best version of himself for his teammates,” Gibos said.

Gentile said his past coaches and members of the community have helped shape his attributes and ideologies. The young star said he has had some incredible teammates and coaches in his life, and he is excited to represent them going forward.

“Erik Shoji played a key aspect in my development and I’m appreciative of all the lessons he’s taught me. Another major influence is former Lethbridge College assistant coach [and current Concordia University head coach] Ken McLaughlin,” Gentile said.

“The amount of knowledge and confidence I received from the Pursuit Volley camps has been incredible – and I can’t wait to continue to inspire athletes in my community.”

Gentile is also familiar with some of his new teammates, having played with them at past camps. In the classroom, Gentile will join the General Arts and Science program at Lethbridge College, with a goal of working towards a bachelor’s degree in science.

He will make his debut with the Kodiaks men’s volleyball team during an exhibition weekend hosted by the squad September 22 to 24, 2022. The 2022-2023 Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season will start in mid-October.
