LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge fire crews responded to a fire involving a load of garbage in west Lethbridge Monday, August 15, 2022.

Firefighters were dispatched to a commercial parking lot at 401 Highlands Boulevard West just before 8:00 a.m. after a garbage truck dumped its load onto the parking lot because the load was on fire.

Crews quickly extinguished the blaze and no injuries were reported. However, damage to the garbage truck is estimated at about $5,000.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind people not to dispose of any materials that may be hot enough to ignite combustible materials.

City officials say the garbage truck was not operated by the City of Lethbridge, and the company involved will clean the surface of the parking lot and check drains in the area to ensure any contaminated water or material is safely removed.
