Southern Alberta company charged with allegedly withholding, falsifying information

CHAMPION, AB – The Alberta Government has laid charges against a company under the Water Act.

A spokesperson with the Alberta Ministry of Environment and Parks says the alleged offences occurred at or near Champion between August 31, 2020, and June 1, 2022, involving Aqua Properties Ltd. and Robert Rettie.

According to a media release from the provincial government, the company and the individual are alleged to have provided false or misleading information to Alberta Environment and Parks.

Aqua Properties faces seven counts of contravening term(s) or condition(s) of a license, one count of providing false or misleading information, and one count of failing to provide information, data, or records as required.

Rettie faces one count of providing false or misleading information.

Potential penalties under these sections of the Water Act are subject to a fine of up to $50,000 for individuals or up to $500,000 for a corporation.

As the matter is now before the courts, the ministry spokesperson was unable to provide any further comments.

The first court date for Aqua Properties and Rettie is September 19, 2022.
