MEDICINE HAT, AB – Members of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) seized a variety of weapons, including a rifle, from the home of a suspected drug dealer in Medicine Hat.

They searched a home in the Southwest Hill area on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, and uncovered a rifle with ammunition, a crossbow, a taser, a dart launcher, and quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Officers also seized $6,350 in cash.

Investigators were concerned because the home is close to a junior high school.

“Clearly, there were a variety of dangerous weapons seized during this investigation and what’s most concerning is the home’s proximity to a junior high school. Anytime drugs and weapons mix it poses a threat to public safety and community well-being,” said Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn, ALERT Medicine Hat.

James McNulty, 41, has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of proceeds of crime, and unauthorized possession of identity documents.

McNulty was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 29, 2022.
