Milk River’s emergency department to temporarily close this weekend

Sep 8, 2022 | 3:18 PM

MILK RIVER, AB – Residents of Milk River will temporarily be sent to another community if they require emergency care.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has announced the temporary closure of the Milk River Health Centre Emergency Department from 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022, to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022.

AHS says the closure is due to a lack of on-site physician coverage.

“This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time,” reads a media advisory from AHS.

Patients in Milk River needing emergency healthcare are asked to call 911. EMS calls will be re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is 87 kilometres away.

Residents can also seek emergency services at the Raymond Health Centre.

Nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for people in community support beds and long-term care.

Health Link is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions by phoning 811.
