LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says it continues to catch drivers who are in violation of various traffic laws.

Officers conducted a traffic enforcement initiative this past weekend and removed one impaired driver from the road.

LPS also charged one suspended driver and towed four vehicles.

A total of 27 violation tickets were issued under the Traffic Safety Act for offences including speeding, vehicle equipment regulation violations, and not having insurance.

The police service says in a media release that “Public complaints about speeding, racing, stunting, and loud vehicles have increased and the [Traffic Response Unit] hopes the highly visible police presence will help reduce these behaviours.”

The enforcement blitz, occurring on random weekends, will continue over the next few months. LPS says these events aim to provide safer roads, allow residents more peace and quiet, and alleviate the demands on patrol members.

Concerns about traffic issues in specific areas of Lethbridge can be reported to LPS by calling 403-328-4444.
