COUTTS, AB – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has charged an Alberta man in connection to alleged drug importation.

On Sunday, November 6, 2022, the CBSA says a commercial transport vehicle entered the Coutts border crossing, travelling from the U.S. to Canada, with a shipment of bananas.

A secondary examination was conducted by CBSA officers, who reportedly found 43 kilograms of cocaine in the vehicle.

CBSA Regional Director General Brad Wozny thanked both CBSA and RCMP officers for their ongoing efforts to protect the country from illegal drugs and other contraband.

“By stopping illegal drugs at the border, we’re reducing the risk of harm to Canadians and keeping our communities safe,” says Wozny.

Gurkirat Singh, 26, of Calgary, is charged with one count each of importation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
