Lethbridge Hurricanes sweep weekend set against Brandon

BRANDON, MB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes were in Brandon, Manitoba for a pair of games against the Wheat Kings this weekend. The visiting team came out on top in both match-ups.

FRIDAY NIGHT

On Friday, November 25, 2022, the Hurricanes came out hot on a power play, with Tyson Laventure scoring his fourth goal of the season three-and-a-half minutes into the game.

The Brandon Wheat Kings responded 10 minutes later, courtesy of a power play goal by Mason Ward. Just under a minute after Ward’s goal, his teammate Nate Danielson added another power play goal to put the home team up 2-1 going into the second period.

A spark was lit for the Lethbridge Hurricanes going into the second frame of the game, as the visiting team scored three goals. Five minutes in, Jett Jones picked up his 10th goal of the season on the power play. Just over two minutes later, Logan McCutcheon scored his first of the season.

At the 15-minute mark of the period, Tyson Laventure scored his second goal of the game. Laventure’s goal gave Lethbridge the 4-2 lead going into the third and final period of regulation.

In the third period, Calder Anderson of the Wheat Kings scored his forth goal of the season. It came at the 18:08 mark and cut the Hurricanes’ lead to one. However, Brandon was unable to score a tying goal and Lethbridge claimed the 4-3 Friday night victory.

Tyson Laventure was named the first star of the game. His teammate Logan McCutcheon was named the second star, while Mason Ward of the Wheat Kings received third star of the game honours.

SATURDAY EVENING

Saturday night, November 26, 2022, was another high-scoring game between the two teams.

Seven minutes into the opening period, Tyson Laventure carried his Friday night momentum into Saturday and scored the game’s first goal. At the 9:44 mark, Noah Chadwick scored his second of the season to put Lethbridge up 2-0.

The Hurricanes took a 3-0 lead following a goal by Tyson Zimmer 31 seconds into the second period. Just over a minute later, the Wheat Kings responded. Nate Danielson scored on the power play to cut Lethbridge’s lead to two.

At the 6:35 mark of the second period, Laventure scored his second goal of the game. This put the Hurricanes up 4-1.

Five goals were scored in the third and final period. Calder Anderson of the Wheat Kings got things rolling with a power play goal 26 seconds into the period.

Brayden Edwards of the Hurricanes scored on a power play at 3:39.

Just under seven minutes in, Roger McQueen of the Wheat Kings scored his second of the season. His goal was followed by a power play goal by teammate Andrei Malyavin at the 10:32 mark.

At the 18:45 mark, Tyson Laventure scored again to complete a hat-trick for the game. Laventure’s empty net goal was the final one of the game and resulted in a 6-4 win for the Hurricanes.

For his efforts, Laventure was named the first star of the game for the second night in a row. Nate Danielson of the Wheat Kings earned second star honours, while Lethbridge’s Noah Chadwick was named the third star of the game.

The Saturday night victory also marked Hurricanes’ head coach Brent Kisio’s 250th career win.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes continue their road trip on Friday, December 2 when they face the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Washington.
