LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge (U of L) Pronghorns Athletics is looking forward to 2023 after receiving a generous donation from a local golf course.

Paradise Canyon has gifted the Pronghorns golf team $10,000 that will go towards offsetting the cost of exhibition and tournament play in the upcoming season.

While student-athletes are required to undertake serious fundraising initiatives during the year, this contribution will help the Pronghorns expand on its current schedule to face schools on both sides of the border.

Matt Barkway, Paradise Canyon PGA of Canada Executive Professional said, “We’re hoping this donation allows the University of Lethbridge golf team to increase the quality of competition they see by travelling to the U.S. to play schools who compete year-round. The ability to play that level of competition and that environment will help develop their abilities in ways they may not have seen yet.”

In the past three years, Paradise Canyon has been the host for the Pronghorns leg of the Canada West Golf schedule that has seen schools from across Western Canada come down for a fall tournament.

They have also partnered to host the Lethbridge Paradise Canyon Open as part of two Mackenzie Tour stops in 2018 and 2019.

The Pronghorns golf team was then identified as a benefactor from the tournament, earning a $10,000 contribution each year from the proceeds of the tournament and Paradise Canyon.

Pronghorn’s golf team head coach, Marcus Meneghetti was elated to receive such a gift, “Thank you to Ron Sakamoto and the team at Paradise Canyon for their generous contribution to the U of L Golf Team. This funding will allow us to continue to build on the hard work done by former head coach Dallas Ducheminsky to bring our golf program to the next level.”

“There is a lot of excitement from myself and the team for the upcoming season and we are very grateful for the opportunity,” Meneghetti added.

In 2023, the Pronghorns golf team will be sporting the Paradise Canyon logo on all competition uniforms.
