Property owners encouraged to prepay taxes for 2023

Dec 20, 2022 | 8:48 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is inviting property owners to make prepayments towards their 2023 property taxes in January and February.

Officials note this will result in a discount when 2023 tax bills are issued in May.

The discount will be equivalent to earning interest at 2% per year from the date of payment starting in 2023 to June 30, 2023. The City stated that prepayment amounts cannot surpass the total property tax bill for the preceding year.

Property owners in Lethbridge who are a part of the Tax Installment Prepayment Plan (TIPP) program already receive a monthly discount on their credit balance.

Citizens can make payments online, at their bank, in-person at Lethbridge City Hall, by mail, or by using the secured drop box at City Hall. Credit cards are not accepted for payments.

Payments made online, at a property owner’s bank, or those sent in the mail will be honoured as of the online payment date and the stamp date.

Residents are advised that City Hall will be closed to the public from December 26, 2022 to January 2, 2023 and will re-open on January 3.

The City added that the earlier prepayments are received, the greater the credit applied to the property owner’s 2023 tax account. Residents can still enroll into the monthly TIPP as well.
