Medicine Hat’s Ivy Hozack commits to Kodiaks women’s soccer team

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A soccer player from Medicine Hat has committed to joining the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s team.

Ivy Hozack is a winger who will join the Kodiaks after graduating from Medicine Hat High School in the spring. Hozack is a product of the Rattlers Academy Soccer Club in Medicine Hat, but also recently suited up for the Lethbridge Football Club U17 team at the Tier 2 Alberta Youth Outdoor Soccer Provincials last season.

Kodiaks head coach Sean Carey said, “She’s one of the strongest girls to come out of Medicine Hat this year. She’s very versatile and can play all over the park.”

Carey continued, “She has a real eye for goal, which is a huge asset in this league. There were a couple of big games this year where we needed a goal and we just didn’t get it, so she brings that element to it.”

This past season, the Kodiaks captured bronze at the 2022 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championships. Carey said he is optimistic that adding speed and a scoring touch will push his team closer to their championship pursuits.

He stated that, “Speed wins games in this league, it always has and always will.”

Carey said, “Ivy is going to be a huge threat, especially up against defenders who just don’t have that element of quickness to their game.”

He continued, “It’s a signing that reinforces the desire to win right now for this program. We fell short last year, but we’re going to rebound and give it another go this year.”

Hozack meanwhile, said she is excited to meet her teammates and start her journey with the Kodiaks.

She said, “I had heard the Kodiaks have a real good program and everyone was so welcoming during the recruiting process.”

Hozack added, “Growing up in Medicine Hat, you’re supposed to be against Lethbridge. But I think it’ll be a really good experience to see what it’s like over here.”

The latest recruit for the Kodiaks has enrolled in Lethbridge College’s General Arts and Science program, and plans to take courses that will help her pursue a career in pharmacy.
