Piikani Nation elects new Chief and council

BROCKET, AB – The Piikani Nation has elected its new Chief and council.

A voting process was held on January 9, 2023, and Troy “Bossman” Knowlton was elected as the new Chief, along with a council of eight members.

Chief Knowlton replaces Stan Grier and enters his fourth term on the Piikani Nation Council. Knowlton is a local business owner and advocate for sports and charitable causes on the Piikani Nation.

In a news release, the new Chief stated, “I am humbled by the support of my Nation.”

He thanked former Chief Stan Grier “for his work and commitment to our people and [I] wish him every success going forward.”

Chief Knowlton also commended those who ran against him in the election, and praised their positive campaigns. He added, “Looking forward, my commitment is to re-engage Piikani people in the work of their government. That means more Band meetings, more transparency in financing issues and a style of government that demands accountability.”

Knowlton remarked, “Our future is bright. I will commit everything I have to creating a Nation that has opportunity for young people and for generations to come.”

The eight elected councillors are:

  • Cynthia “Cindy” Provost
  • Neil Sharp Adze Jr.
  • Dimples Stump
  • Albertine Crow Shoe
  • Wesley Crow Shoe
  • Helen Flamand
  • Martin Iron Shirt
  • Jordan No Chief
