LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is asking for the public’s help in finding a suspect who is accused of approaching a 12-year-old boy and grabbing his backpack.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, LPS says the youth was walking eastbound on the 1800 block of 14 Avenue South when he noticed an unknown man walking towards him at a brisk pace.

According to police, the boy turned around to walk home and lost sight of the man.

The suspect reportedly confronted the youth nearby.

LPS says in a media release, “The male grabbed his backpack from behind but the boy was able to pull away and run from the area.”

Police searched the area but were unable to find anyone who matched the suspect’s description.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man who was wearing a black hoodie, grey pants, and a black bandana on his head.

LPS is asking residents in the area who have security cameras to check their videos between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on January 26, 2023, to see if anyone matches the suspect’s description.

Anyone who has camera footage of the suspect or who may have been in the area at the time is asked to call LPS at 403-328-4444 and reference file #23001939.
