Alberta RCMP officer in stable condition after knife attack

REDWATER, AB – A Redwater RCMP officer is recovering after receiving serious but non-life-threatening injuries in a knife attack at a home north of Edmonton.

On February 7, 2023, just after 4:00 p.m., police say an RCMP officer responding to a call at a home in the hamlet of Thorhild was assaulted with a weapon that resulted in the officer being airlifted to hospital.

According to Alberta RCMP, the officer remains in stable condition.

An 48-year-old female resident of the home was taken into custody following the incident.

Cindy Chelsberg has been charged with:

· Attempted murder

· Aggravated assault of a peace officer

· Aggravated assault

· Obstruction

· Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Chelsberg was remanded in custody and police say no further updates will be provided until the court has made a final verdict.

Officers from the RCMP Eastern Alberta District and Northern General Investigative Sections have taken over the investigation.
