Lethbridge firefighters extinguish afternoon blaze at south side home

LETHBRIDGE, AB – First responders in Lethbridge were quick to extinguish a fire coming from a single-family home on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., three Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) stations responded to a blaze on the 700 block of 17 Street South.

Upon arrival, crews discovered smoke coming from the basement of the home and located a small fire smoldering between the front porch and the exterior wall.

According to the City of Lethbridge, no injuries were reported and the occupants of the home were able to make a swift escape.

Damages are estimated to be upwards of $10,000.

LFES is reminding residents to properly dispose of smoking materials.

People are encouraged to extinguish materials in a non-combustible container filled with sand or water.
