College and university sports preview: February 10, 2023

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Post-secondary athletes in Lethbridge will be in action this weekend, with some local teams closing out their regular seasons.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

The Kodiaks women’s basketball team hits the court at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023. They will host the University of Alberta-Augustana. The Kodiaks are in third place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division with 12 wins and six losses.

Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team also hosts the University of Alberta-Augustana. Lethbridge College will be on the court for an 8:00 p.m. match-up on Friday, February 10. The Kodiaks have 15 wins and three losses on the regular season, placing them atop the ACAC South Division rankings.

Both the Lethbridge College women’s and men’s volleyball teams close out the regular season.

The women’s volleyball team visits the University of Alberta-Augustana in Camrose on Friday, February 10 for a 6:00 p.m. meeting. The Kodiaks are in third place in the ACAC South Division with 10 wins and eight losses on the regular season.

The men’s volleyball team competes in Camrose against the University of Alberta-Augustana at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10. Lethbridge College is in second place in the ACAC South Division, with 14 wins and four losses.

The Lethbridge College esports team competed against the Post University Eagles on Wednesday, February 8. A stream of the match-up is at the Kodiaks twitch page.

In other Kodiaks news, Mack Lewicki and Nolan Moes have been named the Athletes of the Week.

This is the second straight week Mack Lewicki has received the honour. She plays for the Kodiaks women’s volleyball team. On Friday, February 3, she acquired 30 digs, seven kills and one ace in a 3-0 win over Medicine Hat College. In a rematch with the Rattlers on Saturday, February 4, Lewicki helped lead the Kodiaks to a 3-2 victory with 18 digs, 12 kills, six solo blocks and one ace.

Nolan Moes suits up for the men’s volleyball team. The Kodiaks defeated Medicine Hat 3-1 both Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4. Moes finished the weekend with a total of 20 kills, nine digs, four blocks and four aces.

UNIVERSITY OF LETHBRIDGE PRONGHORNS

The U of L Pronghorns women’s and men’s basketball teams finish their Canada West regular seasons.

The women’s basketball team is in Edmonton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10 for a meeting with the University of Alberta Pandas. On Saturday, February 11, at 5:00 p.m., it’s a rematch between the teams. The U of L has seven wins and 11 losses this season, placing them in 13th in the Canada West standings.

The men’s basketball team is also in Edmonton. The team faces the University of Alberta Golden Bears at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10. It will be a rematch between the teams at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11. The Pronghorns are in 13th place in the Canada West standings, with six wins and 12 losses.

The U of L track and field team will be joining basketball players in Edmonton. Track and field athletes will compete at the Pandas Open, hosted by the University of Alberta on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11.

The Pronghorns women’s rugby team competes at its latest 7’s series on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11. Players will be on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, with the event hosted by the University of Victoria Vikes.
