Lethbridge Speed Skater brings home medal at Canada Winter Games

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge speed skaters Zakhary Adelman and Mikka Eaves impressed at the Canada Winter Games currently underway in Prince Edward Island. Both are members of the Alberta Short Track Speed Skating Team.

Zakhary Adelman brought home bronze in the team relay event. He set a personal best in the 500-metre event with a time of 44.4 seconds. He also shaved two seconds off of his 1000-metre personal best. Adelman ranked in the top 20 in all of his events.

Mikka Eaves notched a personal best in the 3000-metre race and finished 9th overall. In the relay race, her team came in 3rd, but was disqualified for an infraction and officially finished in 4th place.

Some younger Lethbridge speed skaters competed in the RU Fast short track event in Calgary on February 25 and 26, 2023. Lethbridge was well represented, with five skaters participating in the event: Olivia Cho, Jayden Cho, Aiden Cho, Caelyn Wolfe, and Wyatt Scratch. Aiden Cho won gold in Division Three. Jayden Cho won gold in Division Seven, and Wyatt Scratch came in second in the Fifth Division.

The RU Fast meet will be good preparation for the skaters, as they will compete in the Canadian Youth Short Track Skating Qualifier in Edmonton on March 4 and 5, 2023.

As for Zakhary Adelman, he has qualified for the Short Track Canada Cup Junior Final in Sherbrooke, Quebec next month. Mikka Eaves will be attending the Canada Cup Senior Final, for the top 40 skaters in Canada, in Quebec City.
