Boil water advisory issued for Bow Island

Mar 6, 2023 | 9:47 AM

BOW ISLAND, AB – Alberta Health Services (AHS) has issued a boil water advisory for the Town of Bow Island. This follows a water main break that occurred on Friday, March 3, 2023, on the main line from the water treatment plant.

AHS noted that the break has been fixed, but the boil water order will remain in effect until sampling and testing confirms that the water is safe to consume.

Officials said that anyone in Bow Island should bring water to a rapid rolling boil for at least one minute before any consumption, including:

  • Drinking
  • Food preparation
  • Brushing teeth or rinsing mouth
  • Cleaning raw foods
  • Preparing infant formula, beverages, or juices
  • Making coffee using coffee machines
  • Making ice cubes and ice treats, etc.

AHS said, if possible, residents should drink bottled water only. Water being used for bathing or washing clothes does not need to be boiled.

For hand-washing, officials recommend washing with soap and water and using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains more than 60 per cent alcohol after drying hands.

AHS Environmental Public Health officers continue to monitor the situation. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice. More information is available online from AHS.
