Lethbridge County approves speed limit changes

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Drivers will have to take note of several new changes to speed limits in Lethbridge County.

At the March 2, 2023 council meeting, members voted to approve a new Speed Limit Bylaw.

The changes to speed limits include:

  • Speed limits in most hamlets and grouped county residential subdivisions will be 40 kilometres per hour. Shaughnessy, Vista Meadows, and McKechney Avenue in Diamond City will remain at 30 km/hr.
  • Speed limits in industrial parks are set at 50 km/hr.
  • The speed limit at Township Road 9-2 heading east from Highway 512 is 60 km/hr, then becomes 30 km/hr near the Stafford Lake campground.

Lethbridge County says signage for the new speed limits will be installed over the next few months.

Previous bylaws or council motions establishing a speed limit are being grandfathered into the new bylaw.

The county says provincial standards for the majority of gravel roadways will remain at 80 km/hr. School and playground zones in hamlets and adjacent to rural roadways will continue to be 30 km/hr.

The full Speed Limit Bylaw is available on the Lethbridge County website.
