Fire officials issue reminder to check smoke alarms ahead of Sunday time change

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Clocks move forward one hour on Sunday, March 12, 2023, as Daylight Saving Time begins.
The City of Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services is encouraging residents to use the time change to check on their residential smoke detectors.
Officials note that smoke detectors in homes should be inspected at least twice per year, in order to confirm that they are in working condition in the event of an emergency. Residents are advised to change the batteries and ensure the expiry date on their detectors is not within the next six months. Officials said if a smoke detector is over 10-years-old, it should be replaced.
Residents are also being reminded to take a few minutes and make sure everyone in their home recognizes the sound of a smoke alarm and knows what to do in case there is a fire.
