Crowsnest Pass RCMP assist in backcountry rescue

Mar 15, 2023 | 7:16 AM

CROWSNEST PASS, AB – Members of the Crowsnest Pass RCMP detachment assisted with a backcountry rescue in southern Alberta.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023, the detachment received a call from a company that monitors backcountry emergencies to advise of a snowmobile user who was injured.

The RCMP said the individual was stranded in an area south of Coleman. Police noted that the area is well known by emergency responders and was not accessible by vehicle.

A helicopter long line was determined to be the best option to rescue the injured person.

The RCMP called for assistance from Kananaskis Mountain Rescue, as well as the Crowsnest Pass Fire Department and EMS. A 25-year-old male resident of Hillcrest was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital with what the RCMP believed to be non life-threatening injuries.
