Downtown roads reopen following fire and water main break

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The streets and sidewalks are open again along 5 Street South and 2 Avenue South following the fire at The Lethbridge Hotel on February 24, 2023 and the subsequent water main break in the same area on March 7, 2023.
City of Lethbridge officials say fire and emergency crews have completed their work at the site of The Lethbridge Hotel fire. The city says the site has been fenced off and secured, and it will now be returned to the property owner for the remaining demolition and restoration.
City officials say appropriate remediation will be required for the asbestos that was confirmed at the site. The city says as long as the site is undisturbed, there is no risk to the public.
The Downtown Clean Sweep program will still be in the area cleaning the streets and sidewalks. City officials want to thank the public for their patience during the incidents and the resulting site clean-up.
