LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) said it has laid charges against two suspects following random incidents in which drivers were allegedly targeted and intimidated.

On April 1, 2023, officers say they received two separate 911 calls with 30 minutes of each other from drivers who say they had been confronted by unknown people in a black SUV.

In the first case, LPS said a driver reported that he was being aggressively followed by a black SUV. After stopping at a red light, three masked people wearing orange gloves allegedly exited their vehicle and approached the victim.

“Fearing he was about to be assaulted or carjacked, the victim quickly drove away,” said LPS in a news release.

In the second instance, police say a driver pulled up behind a black SUV at an intersection. A passenger, wearing a mask and orange gloves, reportedly got out of the suspect vehicle and approached.

LPS said, “The subject was reaching into his pocket and the driver believed he had a weapon. When a third vehicle arrived at the intersection, the subject got back into the SUV and it drove away.”

A short while after descriptions were provided to police, LPS said two people were arrested on the 700 block of 6 Avenue South.

During a search of the vehicle, officers claim to have seized a replica handgun, a hatchet, multiple cannisters of bear spray, a large hunting knife, and orange gloves.

The suspects are said to not be known to the 911 callers.

Richard Frank Brown Chief Calf, 39, of Lethbridge, is charged with dangerous driving and criminal harassment.

Reginald Black Rabbit, 31, of Standoff, is charged with criminal harassment and disguised with intent.

Both suspects have been released from custody on conditions. They are each scheduled to appear in court on June 1, 2023.
