COALDALE, AB – The Town of Coaldale is receiving infrastructure funding from the province.

The provincial government is providing $525,045 in grants for a potable water reservoir engineering project. The town is also getting $544,600 in grant funding for an at-grade pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Highway 3 and Land O’ Lakes Drive.

Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter made the announcement at Civic Square in Coaldale on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. He said the government, “recognizes the importance of investing in infrastructure projects that create jobs and strengthen communities, while also ensuring a high quality of life for Alberta’s residents.”

Hunter added, “With McCain’s recent announcement of a $600 million expansion to its Lethbridge County facility, there is a need to expand the water infrastructure around Coaldale.”

He said, “A new potable water reservoir will increase the capacity and reliability of the town’s water supply system, ensuring that the residents of Coaldale have access to a robust water infrastructure as their town grows.”

Coaldale mayor Jack Van Rijn said the funding for the potable water reservoir and pump station will help to ensure the town has “sufficient storage capacity for both fire protection and our ability to sustain pressure throughout our water distribution system.”

Van Rijn noted, “We’re also incredibly thankful to have received funding for the construction of an at-grade pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Highway 3 and Land O’ Lakes Drive.”

He said the project will help to create a central connection point from the south side of Coaldale to the new multi-use recreation centre and high school, “while at the same time improving pedestrian safety.”
