Red Dress Day for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls – May 5

On Friday, Reconciliation Lethbridge will host a Fireside Connection from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Galt Gardens, wind permitting. May 5 is recognized as Red Dress Day for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The event will feature lunch, drumming, dancing, along with presentations from Elders and health care teams. Taco Festival Lethbridge – May 5

The second annual Taco Festival will take place at the Multicultural Centre to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. From 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., families can head downtown to enjoy an afternoon of free entertainment from traditional Mexican dancers, mariachi singers, and a special hot wing challenge. Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame Induction ceremony at ENMAX Centre – May 5

The Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame welcomes its 2023 induction class on May 5 with a banquet at the ENMAX Centre. This year’s class includes athletes Ashley Patzer (rugby), Lanny Tron (track and field – discus/shot put), builders Mitch Ball (baseball), Brian Donaldson (wrestling), the 1979 Lethbridge Little League team (baseball) and special award recipient Rufus Goodstriker (multisport). Doors open at 6:00 p.m., a short program begins at 6:50 p.m., and the inductions begin at 8:00 p.m. following dinner.

Earthsongs at Southminster United Church – May 6

Vox Musica Choral Society is set to present “Earthsongs” on May 6. The group will perform Ola Gjeilo Sunrise Mass with Tutti Corda, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Southminster United Church. Tickets will be available at CASA or at the door for $25, with children 12 and under free.

LEMF & Unified Vibe Presents Jimi Needles (UK) – May 6

The Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival (LEMF) and Unified Vibe will host an EDM event on Saturday at The Onion Bar & Grill. UK artist, Jimi Needles, will be in Lethbridge to perform his party mixtapes covering various genres, festival sets and his array of bootlegs & original productions. The venue is subject to limited capacity, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

Inaugural Oldman Backyard Ultra Running – May 6

The Oldman Backyard Ultra running event is set to launch at 7:00 a.m. on May 6 in Pavan Park, beside the Oldman River. The 6.7 km out-and-back course follows the global backyard ultra standard: runners start every hour on the hour and must complete the loop within an hour. The cycle continues until one person remains and is crowned the BYU champion. The event is likely to go 30 hours or longer with some participants running over 200 km. Motorcycle Awareness and Teddy Bear Parade – May 6

The Southern Alberta Bikers are set to host the 35th annual Motorcycle Awareness and Teddy Bear Parade on Saturday. The parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Lowes parking lot on the south side of the city, and the route will take the riders through Lethbridge before arriving at Chinook Regional Hospital. The event is a way to raise awareness about motorcycle safety and give back to the community as participants will donate a new or gently used toy at the hospital.

Lethbridge Steel at the University of Lethbridge – May 6

Lethbridge’s women’s tackle football team, the Lethbridge Steel, will be playing their first home game of the season on Saturday. The game starts at 6:00 p.m. at the University of Lethbridge stadium and tickets are $5 at the door, and half that price if attendees wear the home team’s colour of purple.

Jane’s Walk Festival with the City of Lethbridge – May 5-7

Jane’s Walk is a global pedestrian-powered movement of neighbour-led walking tours inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs. The purpose of the walk is to encourage people to get out on the street of their neighbourhoods to discover unseen, under-celebrated and unique stories about their city. Events in Lethbridge include the Downtown Public Art Walk, London Road Beauties: The Old, the New and the Renovated, Jane’s Walk: Tour of the Waste & Recycling Centre, and Jane’s Ride: Designing a Climate Resilient City. 2023 AMSA Alberta Motocross Championship – May 6-7

This weekend, the Lethbridge Motorcycle Club will host the 2023 AMSA Alberta Motocross Championship at Temple Hill Motorcycle Park. On Saturday and Sunday, the first rounds of the AMSA MX Race Series will begin, which are Amateur National Qualifiers. The races will run from now until September. Night Howl with Deicha & The VuDudes at The Slice Bar & Grill – May 7

On Sunday, the Latin-inspired duo, Night Howl, will bring their hip shaking howls to The Slice Bar & Grill. Joining them is the eight-piece stank n’ soul orchestra, Deicha & The VuDudes. Tickets for the show are available at the door.

Alberta Genealogical Society – Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

The Lethbridge branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society opens its resource centre to the public from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Community members are encouraged to come out and learn more about their history and try to trace their family trees.
