LETHBRIDGE, AB – Three local companies have been named finalists for the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction.

Conducted by the Alberta Chambers of Commerce, a total of 36 businesses have been nominated amongst 12 different categories, recognizing each company’s achievements.

Nominated under the business innovation category is Lethbridge-based MPP Software Solutions.

CEO Colin Moreland said he works with a team of 11 employees across offices in Lethbridge, Calgary, and Edmonton.

“Our team is really excited,” Moreland said of the nomination. “We’re looking forward to being able to come together as a group from our three different offices up in Edmonton and see how we fare against the best in Alberta.”

A few examples of MPP’s work includes TrustedShare, which allows people to privately rent out their vacation homes, boats, RVs, and other vehicles without opening it up to the general public; the property-viewing digital platform JustRingTheBell; and a piece of software that allows people to deposit cheques into their bank accounts by taking a photo of the cheque.

He said his company has also partnered with local organizations such as the Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta and Tecconnect on a variety of initiatives.

“Provided [MPP’s talents and the clients needs fit together] and there’s a solid idea and business plan and financial backing behind the concept that they’re bringing to the table as well, we’re happy to be the technical arm that brings that vision to reality, working with them and ensuring they get that out to market,” said Moreland.

Moreland adds that Lethbridge is an ideal location for them because the cost to do business is lower than in many larger cities and they are more easily able to attract talent graduating from Lethbridge’s post-secondary schools.

Another local finalist for the business awards is Teamworks Training Ltd., nominated under the marketing category.

The company said in a news release that it is a great honour for their organization.

““Driven to get Alberta Working!” That is the purpose that has driven Teamwork Training Ltd. (Teamworks) in supporting southern Alberta for over 31 years. Teamworks is a locally owned, small family business which consists of Teamworks Career Centre, Teamworks Training Institute (TTI) and Select People Solutions,” said a statement from Teamwork Training Ltd.

Teamworks adds that they have assisted over 70,000 unemployed Albertans to find meaningful employment, leading to more than 3,000 employers finding critical labour.

Teamworks has operated for more than 25 years in the Lethbridge area.

Also nominated under the marketing category is Jade Homes.

The Bow Island-based ready-to-move home builder was recognized for the ways in which it shows off its properties.

The award winners will be announced at an event in Edmonton on June 15, 2023.
