LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s soccer team added to its defence on Friday, May 19, 2023, signing defender Ana Waurynchuk.

The Cranbrook, B.C. native spent the past three years playing for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. With the Kodiaks, Waurynchuk will reunite with former Rattler Shelby Bach, who also committed to play for the Kodiaks in the upcoming season.

Waurynchuk said of her new squad, “I’m also looking forward to having a really big team. It will be great to have good practices when you can really compete with each other.”

Head coach Sean Carey said Waurynchuk will be competing for the team’s starting centre-back position.

Carey praised Waurynchuk’s skills on the field, saying, “She’s strong, she’s quick and she’s really going to give us an added security and insurance. She’s going to really fill a role that we need, and I feel like we always want that depth.”

The Kodiaks are looking to build off a season that saw them win a bronze medal at the 2022 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championships.

Carey said Waurynchuk’s addition will fill a weakness that plagued the team last year. He explained, “Last year, when we were in the final game, we had to have players playing out of position. With Ana, there will be some added security for us to be able to move on to wherever we want her.”

Waurynchuk plans to enrol in General Studies program at Lethbridge College.
